XFX Radeon HD 4870 X2 Overheating

Hi, I'm fairly new to overclocking video cards and just registered for this forum. I'm hoping you guys can put me in the right direction.

Anyways, I have a XFX HD-487A-CDF9 Radeon HD 4870 X2 2GB and its seriously overheating when gaming and I need to find a cooler for it so I can play Fallout 3 for more than 10 min at time...

I've finally found the Arctic Cooling Accelero XTREME 4870X2 VGA Cooler at HeatsinkFactory.com but they are on pre-order. They are shipping on June 2nd.

What do you guys think of this cooler and is it powerful enough? Does anyone know if its quiet? I like to hear my games and not my fans.

Hi, have you overclocked the video card? If so the chances are that you will fry it before you get the cooling fans. Why would you want to over clock a high end card like that?

I'm not overclocking the card. Its hot enough at stock speeds. I wouldnt even consider that at this point. Maybe with the new cooler but I am just looking for stability at this point.

I just wanted to follow up and say how awesome the Arctic Cooling Accelero XTREME 4870X2 is! I've had it installed for a few days and its very quiet and dropped my temps down a lot!

Here are my temps while gaming:

Accelero hd4870x2 60% fan speed (Dead silent).
Core 1: 46c core2: 44c

Hi, good to see that it is running cooler. Not sure why a new card like that was running to hot.
