Question Nothing on screen...?

Okay, its on board video, so when I plug in the monitor everything seems fine, but when I boot up, the monitor goes into sleep mode. Tried this with two different monitors, so the monitor isn't the problem, it has to be the monitor port on the motherboard. But why and what would cause this?
I guess the next point is to just slap in pci graphics card right? It is an old machine, but it belongs to my mother in law and she doesnt want to spend money on an upgrade, thats why it would have to be a PCI graphics card as there is no port for a graphics card.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi, in the bios set the bios to safe defaults. Can you boot into safe mode ok?

Hi Monty
Nope, cant even get into the bios. Basically everything is off, then I put the monitor on, and the little led indicates its on, then, when I push the power button on the pc, the monitor goes into sleep mode ie the led starts flashing. I tried resetting the bios by taking out the cmos battery, but still nothing?

Is the hard drive running? I mean does it seem to boot to windows. The only thing I can think of would be to reseat the video card unless it is on board. Check all the cables inside the PC. Remove one at a time and put it back into the slot.
If it is an old systen you would need a AGP card not PCI express.

Hi again, yeah it boots, hdd is running. Yeah it is onboard. Guess I'll just have to source an AGP card then. Thanks very much for your help, appreciate it.
