Laptop Screen comes on when laptop off

I shut down my laptop (under Vista) at night and close lid after it completely shuts down. Had laptop for 2 years no problems but last few weeks when i open the lid to laptop to start it, the screen is already on (all white) but computer is still shut down. I turn computer on and it starts normally. How can I stop the screen from coming on through the night? I have tried to find settings that would help but no luck, any ideas? BTW I always leave laptop plugged into power source.

Hi, its a bad idea to leave it plugged in all the time. In other words the battery is always charging it should be used so it runs flat from time to time to fully recharge the battery.
