Two hard drive Problem

Hi there

I have two hard drives(one IDE 30 Gb and other SATA80 Gb). I add the IDE hard as second hard for additional storage. But every time i want to use the second hard i have to restart system and from the bios use the detect hard then one more time in bios change the priority of reading hard.
After doing these the second hard drive can be seen in my computer.
I wonder if any one can guide me to find a way through this problem.

Yours,
