Unhappy using outlook 2000 with xp and won't connect to server

About to throw my notebook out of london window! I'm with the server freeserve and have just configured outlook 2000 on new notebook using xp home. I can send mail but receiving on notebook leads to "cannot connect to server error number 0x800ccc0e"

Configuration settings appear to be exactly as on my home pc but can't get notebook to pick up my new email messages... Any idea anyone?????

Many thanks in expectation !

freeserve?

Are you using freeserve as your dial up connection? Most ISPs don't allow you to send mail on thier servers if you are using a different ISP to connect....

Have you been to freeserve's website and gone through the 'retrieve account' process?

Check your account settings against the freeserve SMTP servers - go to freeserve's website and make sure that you ahve the correct smtp server set up in accounts.

sorry

I had that the wrong way around didn't I?

I would first create a new account with the same settings and call it something different...
