Exclamation Motherboard + RAM problem! Urgent help pls!

Hi there.. I have a strange problem.. today a friend of mine recived the matherboard ASUS M4A78-AM and 2x2GB Ram Dual Channel Mushkin 4GB DDR2 1066MHz CL5 Black Essential kit. Now the problem is with the RAM memory.. from what I've seen in BIOS and windows too.. they only recognise 2GB of RAM.. not as I expected 3GB or more... now what tooked my atention... the motherboard has 2 slots for RAM.. if I try to put any of those 2 RAM on the first DIMM the one which is more close to the CPU... it doesn't work... if i put any of those 2 RAM in the 2nd DIMM it works... what does this mean that the first DIMM is not working???or it's something that I have to setup from BIOS?? I've updated the BIOS, the chipset too.. although if I run everest to check the system at the Motherboard writes unknown motherboard... apeared even if I'm instaling the motherboard drivers from the CD drive, even if I take the new drivers from the site.. I've only tried on the 32 bit OS... don't know if it has any use to try it with an 64bit OS... do u guys have any ideea what might be? I've tested the RAM's too.. they work as single on the 2nd DIMM... even if I put both the PC only see's the one from the 2nd DIMM... so any ideas what might be?

Thank you

A 32 bit OS can only address ~3200MB of RAM due to its architecture, and on some motherboards this may cause a boot failure. Also on a dual channel board, it will only boot if one of the DIMM is in a certain slot.
