Computer freezes - over and over again

homebuilt computer from a couple of years ago. as far as i can remember this is what's in it

128mb nvidia graphics card
2.4ghz intel pentium 4
i had two 400gb seagate hard drives in there but now there's a 80gb western digital
built in audio, ethernet.

computer has been working fine for the last few years only recently it's been giving me problems.

i dont remember what happened but it sat for a couple months and when i went to use it again it kept freezing randomly on me. mouse wouldn't move, ctrl alt delete wouldnt work, no response from anything. when i reboot it, the computer speaker would beep for about 10 seconds straight and then nothing would happen... another reboot and it would be fine. this happened a lot so i finally said screw it and reinstaled windows. a fresh copy and it froze (did the same thing) when installing itunes. thought it was the hard drive, so i swapped out a BRAND NEW hard drive and installed windows on it. same thing happened when installing firefox.

i restored all the bios defaults and the same thing keeps happening. does anyone know what this might be? if you need more info just ask anyone who helps me with this problem is really awesome!

could this be the power supply???

Hi, this may be the cause:

1 Long Beep: Memory problem

Explanation: There is a failure of some sort related to the system memory.

Diagnosis: The first bank of memory probably has a failure of some sort; this is usually just a physical problem such as an incorrectly inserted module, but may also mean a bad memory chip in a module. It is possible that there is a failure related to the motherboard or a system device as well.

If you have to memory modules try swaping them out.
