DVD/CDwriter is formatting my disks

I started having problems today, it's a LightScribe DVD SuperMulti Drive/CD Writer in a HP Pavilion. I'm running Windows Vista. I put in a CD-R of pictures I have and instead of opening to view files as normal it automatically started formatting. Now my photos are gone and the disk is clean.

Any ideas?

My DS had the good idea of trying the cds on my laptop. The files are still there. Apparently, it's the drive.
