Ok, after googling a bit, I found this site and some solutions. none of which worked I'm afraid.
See, for some obscure reason, my friends computer has no ethernet controller. And to install it, it tells us to search the internet for it.
The request itself is stupid, since we can't. It's the reason why we are trying to fix it.
Now, I heard of using everest to find out the info needed, as we saw others with the similar problems were using it to provide the users here with information.

Now, the thing is I searched for the drivers for the 8255x ethernet thing, but I've had no luck in that.
also, in before comments on how much the computer suck, we are going to upgrade it, but I'm doing so piece by piece, and starting with the graphics card, so we still need a working ethernet controller.
