drive speeds not accurate

I have 2 ATA100 drives on my system. I am running Windows XP with SP1 installed and the hyperion 448 drivers installed. Let me know if I am way off the mark here on how the ata100 drives are supposed to perform. Both drives are showing to be running in udma mode 5. I get sustained transfers of around 34MB/s with each drive which from my understanding is pretty good. The highest peak transfer has been 38MB/s. Should there be higher burst speeds than that with ata100?
