URGENT*** 56k modem total failure!! NEED HELP PLZ FAST!!

Hi, im sitting here on my labtop which i fired up after my 56k modem on my good computer totally screwed up. After several fustrating attemps of reinstalling hardware drivers/ect.... nothing...

The problem..
EVerytimg i click ON COnnecting To Storm to connect to the internet.. BOOM my screen goes black.. I have to click ESC to actually go back to windows..were its saying its Dialing my modem..however that goes on foreever with no progress..finaly it stops and goes back to the connecting screen...so i click connect again... And i get an error *right away* that says "your modem is not instal;led properly or what not"...i have reinstalled drivers and the modem many times with no luck at all..I do not know why it is doing this or what could have caused it ..i did a virus scan..nothing...so i dont know.. This is rather urgent and i really need to fix my modem or w/e...

Is there even a way to fix it or am I doomed to buying another modem?

well modems are cheap nowadays. you could either hassle trying to get that one working or go to store at cough up $20 and get new one.
