nforce video problem

I am setting up a computer for a friend that doesn't have a lot of money and doesn't need a great gaming machine. So, I used the ASUS A7N266-VM. The only problem that I am having is that the desktop resolution and color quality need to be set exactly to that of a game, or the game will not load. I have tried this with both GTA3 and MDK2. I installed the newest nforce drivers from nvidia and changed bios settings, but nothing helped.

Setup:

WinXP Pro with SP1
ASUS A7N266-VM (with onboard video, audio, LAN)
256 MB PC2100 Crucial Memory
350 W Power Supply
40 GB WD HD
XP 2000 CPU

why dont u try and flash the bios. it should work. my friend had almost the same problem.
