external HP CD writer error

I have an external HP CD writer connected via a USB to my Dell Latitude CPi laptop running Windows 98 ver 4.10.1998.

In windows explorer the writer drive is show indicating correctedly connected. But when I try to write or read from this drive my system freezes showing the following error:

"A fatal exception 0E has occurred at 0028:c15E9d10 in VXD EUIOSMD(01)+00001A60. The current application will be terminated"

Can someone there help me out?

Try going to http://microsoft.com and in the "Search" menu on the top-right of the page, choose "Knowledge Base".

Then search for your ugly blue screen of death. Most likely they will have it there. If it is not there, try going to get some help from a Microsoft worker...

Good luck. make sure you have the correct driver installed.

Right-click on My Computer, choose Properties. go into the "Device Manager" and look for your CD RW driver. double-click on it and see if it has the correct driver.
