HP Color Laserjet 4500N w/ jet direct

Please help.

I have a 4-year old HP Color Laserjet 4500N w/32MB and less than 25k pages of usage. It now prints blank pages when I send it regular pages to print - a symptom that first arose back in May.

After experiencing this problem in the spring, I pulled the plug on the printer and have not fired it up until last night. Well, of course, after a 6-month vacation, the printer was printing marvelously last night. Color pages looked great! Text was crisp and clean. It acted like it never left!

Well, this morning [yeah, the morning after!], it's printing blank pages again - ad infinitum - even on 1 page jobs.

Please help. I'm running OS X 10.2.6 and have successfully pinged the printer across my network and sent it jobs via its assigned ip address; it still prints blanks but at least, it does receive the instructions via the printer's installed jet direct card.

Thanks in advance.

These are the questions I would ask for Microsoft OS's but they may also work for OSX.

Can you print a test page?

Have you got the latest Drivers installed?

Will the printer work if it is connected locally and not networked?

Can other machines print to the printer OK?

Do you get the problem with text and graphics or just one of the two?

HP Color LaserJet 4500N - Please Help

Can you print a test page?
No. From the printer's on board menu display, I can request a test page be printed. And it will print a blank page. Then another...and so on.

Have you got the latest Drivers installed?
Yes, the latest drivers are installed.

Will the printer work if it is connected locally and not networked?
I am unable to connect locally.

Can other machines print to the printer OK?
No, my XP machine, in fact does not see my printer on the network (wired router). My mac sees the printer via apple talk, and I have been able to send print jobs to it by entering the printer's local ip address. I have also been able to ping the printer from my unix terminal window (os X) - confirming its presence.

Do you get the problem with text and graphics or just one of the two?
I get the problem universally - regardless of text or graphics. It prints blank pages.
