PXE-e6: media test failure, check cable
Hello,
I tried to load my notebook from a knoppix Cd but it didn't work so I took off the knoppix Cd and restarted my notebook as usual!!
boom, I keep getting this erro:
'For Realtek,... PXE-e6: media test failure, check cable
I figured that it might be the boot sequence altered, so I got into bios (phoenixbios) and reset it by default, that is HD first, but still I am getting the same error.
Pls advise.
Thank you

Did you try a noppix install?
What is / was your original OS?
Does your notebook have a built in Realtek NIC Card?

PXE-e6: media test failure, check cable
Ok,
From the begining (no offense),
I have a working toshiba notebook.
I wanted to learn abt linux so I had a knoppix Cd. I was told to boot from knoppic Cd so I did but I did but it did not function.
So, I just took off the Cd and wanted just to start my notebook as usual: BOOM!! I GOT THE ERROR 'For Realtek,... PXE-e6: media test failure, check cable!!
So, i was just turning on my notebook nothing much.
Now, i am having a new problem. After not being able to find a solution, I decided to reinstall windows: I started my notebook from a bootable windows xp CD!! installation went on till the time the computer needs to restart; it restarted but IT GOES AGAIN FROM THE BEGINING.
p.s I did not press Press C to boot from CDrom!!
Now, my problem is that I need to be able to reinstall windows xp.
Note: i am not being able even to boot from any diskette!
Thank you

PXE-e6: media test failure, check cable
Ok, guess what?
I took off the CD just after the computer restarted and here's the installation went on and asked me to put the CD back. Did so and did the installation!!
But, I am pretty sure that it should not be this way! it can't be that i need to take off the CD after restarting!! or am I that ignorant!!
What do you advise?
thanx

PXE-e6: media test failure, check cable
Hello,
Why do you think I am here to ask questions if I am not igorant at the first place!!
Anyways, I solved the problem.
I formatted completely the HD (not quick) and everything went smooth again.
Still I couldn't find the real problem behind the PXE-e6: media test failure, check cable.
'ignorant': someone who knows or think he knows a lot and stop learning.
Thanx

Your HDD has failed, its trying to load up from the LAN/ network card.
Disable this, you'll get another error message.
You need a new HDD.
