change the onboard video adapter

Hi,
My motherboard comes with it's own video adapter, in other words, i don't need another video card, but how if I want to upgrade that? Can I just plug the new video card into my motherboard? Do I have to disable the onboard video card first? How can I made it to use the new one but not the onboard one? Thanks.

Adrian

Might help if you gave us some info on your hardware. What kind of motherboard would help a lot. Thanks

As a rule of thumb, always disable the onboard video when you plug in another card. I don't even use it when running dual monitor. The onboard vid uses it's own form of AGP bus, so 2 AGP cards don't play nicely together.
