ace, i wouldnt think this is a dead motherboard, 1 a bios setting could be incorrect, 2 a ide cable could very well be your problem.3 if this board was "tested" at any point before you got it, you may just need to clear the cmos.
first, the ide cable, new boards are usually ultra ata 100/133 but are bacwards compatible, but the cables make a difference. if you used a cable that came with a cd drive to connect the hd, you will have all sorts of problems, the shielding is different. most of the cables for 100/133 drives usually have a blue end that attatches to the motherboard. also does everything post what it is, like the correct amount of ram, processor, the ide deives....anything not listed right in bios? if you have the manual look through it for jumpers on the motherboard for devices, like dram, video, dip switches.....may even need a bios update.
