Entries in Device Manager (XP Pro)

Guys,

I look in Device Manager and see that there are entries for my Scanner and my WebCam. However, the device names are "CanoScan 8000F #3" and "WebCam Plus #2". I assume this means I have 2 other entries for the Scanner, and one other for the WebCam?

I figure that it is because they are both via USB connections, and if/when they are connected to another USB port, they are re-identified, and drivers installed for them. But, how do I get rid of the obviously redundant entries?

BTW, the same is true for my 1394 Net Adapter entries.

I had that problem on Win Me, and I think I booted into safe mode, and clicked show hidden devices in the device manager. Then I removed all of them, and reinstalled them later. I don't have any ghost devices in my device manager now, so I can't tell you if it would be the same in XP or not.
