I have a pioneer dvd burner (a-103) also a lite-on cd rw burner, since I installed the pioneer drive the drives do not auto boot, I have the pioneer as the master drive and the lite on as the slave , I'm running win XP home edition, how do I check win xp for auto incert notification? any help would be appreciated.

If you installed drivers and/or software that came with the drive, its likely the software is set up to disable notification. Check the software/Driver settings.
Otherwise: My Computer, right click the cd drive, Properties, Autoplay.

Hi, thanks for the reply to my problem, when I go to autoplay I'm faced with a choice, select an action to perform or promt me each time to choose an action.
If I choose an action to perform what do i do then?, I'm faced with a choice on a drop down menu, Music files , Pictures etc, which do I choose and what action?

A couple of examples:
If you insert an audio cd, when asked what you want to do, you select to play using media player. (Tick allways perform this action) Every audio cd that is inserted from then on will be played by media player.
Similarly, you insert a disk of pictures, so you select to see a slide show of the pics (again tick the box to make this happen every time)
You select the function to be performed depending on what you want to do with the cd content.
note that if you don't tick the box, your selection will be used for that one time. Next time you insert a cd that has no defined function the window will ask again. Its not the best way they could have done it, but....

Well apart from using a tweak tool to do it, you could look in your registry here:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\C drom]
look for the entry "autorun" this should have a value of:
0x00000001 (1)
Hopefully, this should do it.
