cdrw-dvd install problem

The cdrom wasn't working in my kids comp. so I replaced it with a Liteon ltc-4816 dvd combo. I made it the master and the Mitsumi cdrw the slave. When I restarted the comp. XP found and installed the hardeware but there isn't an icon for the drive under My Computer.
I've checked it in device manager and it is recognized but i can't get it to work with any type of cd. The drivers it uses are Microsoft and I 've also checked for updated drivers.
Any help would be appreciated................

at boot, go into BIOS, check to see if it is listed there. It could be several things, but that is the easiest to check. If it is not listed in bios then try swapping the master/slave settings. If that still doesn't work, try setting both of them to cs(cable select).

Thanks Procomtech, but it is recognized in the bios.I have the dvd combo set as the master and the burner as the slave,since it's recognized in dos I'm thinking it may be a windows problem. I'm thinking of formating and re-installing xp.
