Hardware upgrade advice

I'm looking to upgrade my pc so I can play games like Black n White. Heres my pc spec:

Processor
Model : Intel(R) Pentium(R) III
Speed : 601MHz
Performance Rating : PR721 (estimated)
Type : Standard
L2 On-board Cache : 256kB ECC Synchronous ATC (8-way, 32 byte line size)

Mainboard

MP Support : No
MP APIC : No

Mainboard : Hewlett-Packard HP Brio BA600 System Board

Any one care to recommend the most cost effective upgrade i could get? i have about £400 to spend

The single best improvement you can make is adding RAM. Add as much as the board can take.
Not familiar with your video card, but that would be MY next recommendation. You can get a very good card with 64MB RAM (or more) on board for around $100 - $150.

your entire system is marginal for playing a game that complex. you really need to get a new motherboard and processor, graphics card and more ram. might be better off purchasing a new pc-you can put one together for $600-1000 that would be able to handle it.

thanx guys thats very useful - i found out my motherboard could support a 700MHz CPU...RUBBISH , so nu motherboard and bits it is
