DVD-ROM, CD-RW, Floppy, USB CF Reader Stopped Working

I have seen lots of posts regarding suddenly not being able to access drives....with an incorrect function error

I just upgraded friends computer with new motherboard to better support new video card he had bought.

Everything is fine when I hand back to him. He phones me next day saying cannot install Norton Anti-virus 2004. Won't register. After going over and mucking about for much time, turns out somehow date on his machine set to 2082 or 2084 (can't recall exactly). Reset date and 10-min later everything fine.

Day later he phones....cannot access his DVD-ROM, CD-RW, Floppy or USB Compact Flash.

Turns out in my case confilict between Norton Anti-Virus 2004 and Nero version 5.5....actually the InCD 2 that comes with it.

Uninstalled Nero and inCD with clean tools from their web site....everything OK. Now have to upgrade Nero.
