Unhappy Disconnection from internet

Was having problems getting this posted, so hope it does not end up being three times here

Hi all,

After being connected to the internet for a few minutes, my computer stops receiving and then a short while after that it disconnects.
I've elimenated the modem (and/or drivers) as the culprit, as I exchanged with it the one out of my old computer and still have the same problem.
Other things I've tried are;
Reinstalled the OS a few times (Win XP Pro Sp1)
Installed an other version of OS (Win XP Pro but without the Sp1)
Upgraded the bios of the (new!!) motherboard (Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000)
Put modem in a different PCI slot
Reduced the speed to a slow 30 odd Kbs even though the phoneline is of good quality ( my old comp allways connects at 52Kbs without any problems)
Removed my NIC, just to eleminate any possible interference

I'm absolutly baffeled of what it can be. Any solution or suggestion are greatly appreciated.

Ron

P.S.
Just incase it might be of any help, I'll attach the connection log.
As you can see at the bottom of it, it stops receiving, but sends the odd byte now and then (when I'm trying to browse the net)
In this case it did not disconnect the computer from the net (first time).
Please don't look at the date, as I messed up there after installing the OS for the twentieth time (it read dec instead of jan)

Can you connect another PC to the line just to eliminate a phone line problem?

The symptoms are similar to the PC checking for updates (Norton, MS etc.) then logging off, have you got any automatic updates enabled?

Also check your email application to see if it is set to download as soon as connected and to Hang Up after sending and receiving.

The phone line is not the problem, if I connect my other (old)computer, it works fine.
The problem is also not related to any thing like Norton or even email. The only thing which is installed after a total clean of the hard disk(eg repartitioned, fdisk mbr, format) is the OS.
Could it be Explorer?, though I would expect to see more people with the same problem, or is it possible the motherboard (which is like everthing else brand new)

This could be the problem that your new motherboard doesn't accept your modem/NIC. And kicks it out after a little while.
That could be the problem but don't know for sure try an other motherboard then try it again.
