Question Scan Disk and Disk Defrag Problems

Hello, please forgive my english - I hope that this makes sense.

I have run into what I think are similar problems during ScanDisk and Disk Defragmentation.
When I run a thorough ScanDisk I get an error message that reads "ScanDisk has started 10 times because windows or another program has been writing to this drive." It then requests that I quit some running programs.

When I attempt to do a disk defragmentation on the "C" drive, it will get to about 10% complete then restarts over and over again and reads "Driver's content changed.... restarted"

I don't (that I know of) have any programs running while I'm performing either of these operations. There is no disk in any drive, I even stopped my screensaver....

Any ideas?

Thank you!

OK

First go into Safe Mode (F8 during boot) and try from there.

Normally the applications that stop Defrag are ...

Screensaver - yours is disabled.

Power Saving Options.

Antivirus programme.

You also need a decent amount of free memory, the more you have the better and quicker the defrag will be.
