recovering files--move hard drive to new computer and transfer files? How?

Greetings all,

I have an old computer and need to get a ton of research
off it (generally all these are .doc files only). The files are located
in an additional hard drive installed only for extra memory.

Alas, the old computer has died a noble death after
years of servitude, and now need to get the research
doc files off the old computer?

I have no hopes of making the old computer operational.

Is this simply a matter of de-installing the extra hard drive
from the ribbon, and installing it in a new computer as
a new slave drive? And then transferring the fiiles to CD?

If so, how? If not, then what the heck do I do???

That's what I did when I bought a new computer. I disconnected the hard drive from the old computer and then reconnected it as a slave in the new computer.

Dependining on the hard drive you have and the operating system of the computer you reconnected it too, you may need to install a driver for it. If so, just find out what kind of hard drive you have and google it along with the words "driver" and "download". I had to do this when installing my Western Digital Cavier hard drive on a Windows 98 machine, XP didn't require me to download a driver though.
