Question Need Input On Monitor Connection Please

I have a Samsung Syncmaster 191T Plus Monitor hooked to a computer running Windows XP Professional(all updates installed).

Graphics card is GeForce 5900 256Mb ultra.

I purchased the monitor back in November and connected it using the Digital cable.Since then it has been performing just fine until yesterday.I booted up the system and the monitor remained blank.

The model 191T Plus monitor has both Digital and Analog capabilities,so I switched over to the analog connection. The monitor began displaying and works just fine with analog.

My questions are:

1.What might be the cause of the digital connection failure?

(I have made no recent changes to the system.)

2.Are there any suggestions for forcing a return to a Digital connection?

3.Are there really any advantages for using Digital vs Analog connection?

BTW: I have contacted Samsung concerning this issue but I don't have great expectations for any usable reply. They don't even seem to be aware that they manufacture this particular model of monitor. The product manual consisted of two pages that briefly explained connecting the monitor and installing the drivers.Samsung has manuals for download online but not for the 191T Plus model....that I could find. So,my best hope for a fix will come from online forums.T.I.A.!
