v92 modem - PC starts itself

I have tried two different V92 modems. With each the computer
turns itself on when the phone rings. The BIOS power control settings for modem ring on/on lan have been set to disable. I have been told that Windows 85-XP all have the ability to reverse BIOS settings. Any ideas?

Probably the bios power settings are arranged to wake the computer on modem activity.

Well what about the phone and modem advanced options?
Is "allow this device to bring the computer out of standby" ticked?
Not exactly your problem, but knowing how unpredictable XP is.. worth a look.

I agree Win XP is very stupid. The other day I turned the PC off and suddenly it started FrontPage 2002! I thought what the hell is wrong.

I have to get back to a friend who E=mailed me that his PC is turning itself back on when he turns it off. When is Gates ever going to provide a finished product?

Very good point. You must remember though that everyones PC will run different. That's why they are updates and patches. Every product will have a patch or an update.

Yes that is true. However back in the early 80's DR dos was issued in 5 or 6 versions, and I did not get 2000 updates for each version. It also was used on hundreds of custom PC's. I never had to look up drivers to make hardware work.
