Unhappy WinXP slow startup

When I bootup, my machine sits at the "detecting drives" area forat least 45 secs, it then boots up normally. This is far too long, what could be the problem" I have IDE one Hdd master drive only for XP and IDE two for my CD Burner and DVD. The Burner is master and DVD slave. Thanks in advance

Set all drive parameters (in bios) to auto. Should take a matter of seconds to detect them at bootup.

Well... try disabling the ide channel that has no drive attached. perhaps it is the bios making sure there is not a drive present.

The detecting drivers happens before an operating system is even noticed to being on the drives.

It is a BIOS setting that needs to be turned off Disk Contented is right, keep going through some BIOS settings.

My friend had the exact same problem, and he said it was a setting in the BIOS.
I will ask him at work tomorrow and get back to you.
