New Dell won't recognize old 2nd HD

Just bought a new Dell Dimension XPS (sweeeet) and installed my old 2nd HD which has all my backed up files on it from the old PC. The new PC has a serial ATA 120G HD, works fine. I added a WD 120G (IDE) attaching the ribbon to the open IDE slot on the MB. Everything good so far. The 2nd HD does not contain any bootup stuff, just files, partitioned into 3 drives, jumped as Slave. After bootup, Windows Explorer does not list the 2nd HD. Yet in Device Manager it is there and says working properly.

Dell Dimension XPS (did I mention it was sweeet?)
3.4Ghz P4 w/HTT
2 Gb DDR SDRAM
120G SATA
Win XP Pro

What am I missing here? TIA.

if i understand your post correctly, you have the old drive, on a ribbon cable by it's self, if this is the case setting the jumper to slave is wrong, not sure what brand the drive is, some are picky, could be a few possibilities. cable select, master, or master of a single. if no other drive is present on the cable it can not be set as slave.

No Joy

Thanks dude. You are right in that I did have it set as Slave and it was the only one on the ribbon. I tried resetting it to CS but it still doesn't list it. Like I said, my main (boot) C: drive is the Serial ATA. I also tried entering setup then Alt-E, Alt-F, and Alt-B to reconfigure the IDE thing but then it wouldn't boot at all until I disconnected the IDE cable.

Anyone else?
