DVD Playing Problems

I own a Compaq computer which came with a Compaq DVD-ROM drive. After upgrading from Windows 98SE to XP, the Compaq DVD-ROM drive stopped working. I looked on the Internet for another driver but found out that Compaq was too lazy to make one for 2000 or XP. So just recently I bought a Pacific Digital DVD 8X Burner Drive, but it has problems playing some DVDs. I made a list below.

Code:
WinDVD (v4) Fight Club no* Fox nothing 28 Days Later no** Fox nothing Edward Scissorhands no Fox Windows XP Matrix yes WB nothing Space Balls yes MGM Windows XP Mr. Deeds yes Columbia interActual Pirates of the Caribbean no Disney interActual Hot Chick no Touchstone interActual Monsters, Inc. no Disney-Pixar interActual RealPlayer (v10 free) Fight Club error* Fox nothing 28 Days Later error** Fox Windows XP Edward Scissorhands error Fox Windows XP Matrix yes WB nothing Space Balls yes MGM nothing Mr. Deeds yes Columbia interActual Pirates of the Caribbean error Disney nothing Hot Chick error Touchstone nothing Monsters, Inc. error Disney-Pixar nothing no: No video plays at all, just audio no*: Same as "no" but only after selecting play from the menu screen. no**: Same as "no*" but shows a short scene after you select play. error: DVD Error. The DVD cannot be played Macrovision distribution failed. error*: Same as "error" but only after selecting play from the menu screen. error**: Same as "error*" but shows a short scene after you select play. nothing: Nothing happens, but all DVDs automatically start up in WinDVD windows: Windows XP opens up a menu to choose what to do with the disc interactual: interActual player 2.0 attemps to install

Im not sure what this means exactly, but my DVD drive seems to have a problem with Fox, Disney, Pixar, and Touchstone. I was told that Compaq computers sometimes have problems with non-Compaq stuff, could this be one of those cases?
