Angry USB Ports, printer & Windows XP

My friend at Dell tells me my problem is XP and USB Port though I do not see any new MS updates for this...
My Samsung printer will print fine and then won't until I unplug USB Port and replug into another port. The last time this happened, I uninstalled and reinstalled the printer with no effect. Then the printer quit working altogether after several weeks. Dell support said it was the printer so I got a replacement.

Well tonight after two months of no problems...need a say more?...same old, same old... Print job just sat in que and did nothing until I unplugged the printer cable and replugged into another USB port just like the last time I had this problem. HELP!?! What is going on here?

i have delt with this same issue 1 time, my dad has a custom pc(built by me). msi with a nforce2 chipset usb 2.0 lexmark combo, printer fax,scanner.....dont remember the model number off the top of my head. i did the same thing, moved it to a different port and it would print again, then quit soon after. what i did, downloaded all new drivers for the system....didnt help. this included usb drivers. i went to lexmark and downloaded the latest everything and installed it. if i leave all the lexmark crap loading in the startup, it works, if i try to just run it from drivers as needed it does the above mentioned problem. the orriginal drivers and startup items that came on the install cd did not help, it was the updated from the lexmark site. i dont know if you took out the startup programs or not, or if there is a driver update from your printers mfg. hope this points you in the right direction.

Thanks for the info, but I'm not Compuwhiz, just Compumad. I am not certian if my Samsung printer stuff is in start up or not. How would I know? I will go to Samsun's web site and see if I can get an updated driver from them. Would I then need to uninstall the printer again?

If you installed all the software on the installation CD, and have not removed it from the Startup folder/profile then it is more than likely still there. However, it might be worth downloading the latest drivers/software from Samsung website, and then doing a fresh install with those. After which see what happens.

Enter your model name and away you go.

usually you will have a printer icon by the clock, or if you hover over the icons by the clock some might say something about print or printing. you can try to reinstall everything just by dropping in the cd that came with the printer and going through the install again. new drivers from the site maybe all you need.
