Unhappy DVD Burner problem?

Hi there, here's the issue...
I installed a DVD Burner awhile ago and everything was fine. I formatted and for some reason now in My Computer it just says it's a DVD-R.

I'm not sure if it ever said more but somehow I think it should.. since my CD Burner says CD-RW

The burner is a DVD+/- R/RW so shouldn't it say more than just DVD-R?

It's a Plextor PX-708A, and I'm running WinXP SP1. My computer specs minus the dvd burner are below. Assistance or reassurance that it's normal to say that would be greatly appreciated because this issue is really driving me nuts.

Thanks in advanced.

-Annie

anniehoang, it doesn't really matter what is being displayed, as long as the functionality is there, have you been able to burn a DVD after reinstalling the operating system ? do you have a software to assist you for burning DVD ?

cheers

Everywhere else if I'm detecting hardware via 3rd party programs says exactly what the burner is. And I've been able to burn CD's and DVD's with it at -r. I haven't tried +r's or RW since the format though. Not yet in any case, I've been hesitant to use one.

But if your saying it doesn't matter then I'll give it a try. Thank you.

This type of thing is very common for Windows. Hell my own CD-RW drive is just classified as "CD Drive", and even my DVD-ROM is classified as "CD Drive". :-P

As snowmonkey said, it does not matter what the drive is identified as, so long as all functionality exists.
