hard drive probs
I have an external drive that was not properly disconnected from win2k (usb 2) because of a power interruption to the pc. The next day I could not access the drive. When the drive is set-up internally as a slave the model number will show up when the BIOS starts but the drive cannot be accessed in Windows. It is not visible with the Disk management utility either.
When I plug in the drive with the usb drive the usb icon will appear on the bottom right of the taskbar and I can view the drive model number when I try to disconnect the drive. When the drive is on via the usb it does not show up in Explorer, etc.
Everything worked fine before.
The drive appears to be running now when a power source is connected.
Does the BIOS and Win2k read the model number from the actual cylinder or from a chip on the logic circuit? This would seem to indicate if drive had some kind of physical damage or if windows somehow wrote a bad sector on the disk.
I have tried to plug the drive into other pc's as a slave and with the usb connection. Neither have worked on these machines either.
Thanks.
