webcam in messenger

I have a webcam and using it in messenger, but the movment is very delaid, is it posible to make it better, I have winXP pro.
cpu celeron 1.8, 512mb ram.

reduce the picture resolution to 320x240, that should speed it up by 30% if in case you have it set high.
