This might be a bit off-topic....

but seeing as you guys are so Knowledgeable :

I'm doing some work where I have to hyperlink to some .xls and .doc documents, stored on a network drive, from a webpage (its actually an office intranet start page).

Problem is that I want the document to open up either in Word or Excel, not the nasty Excel / IE or Word / IE integration THING that you get by default - any idea what the correct syntax is for this?, if it ca be done at all.
The problem with the current integrated setup is that half of the necessary toolbars are not loaded by default, and this has to be used by less techo-savvy people whom I don't want to confuse (they have enough issue creating shortcuts on their desktops!)

Thanks in advance and apologies that this is a little off topic!

If a target "_blank" then you will get a option to download or open the file.

Or you can right click the link > Open in New Window > then you will get a option to download or open the file.

Yep, that works.

<BODY>
<a href="test.doc" target="_blank">test.doc</a>
</BODY>

Forces the option.
