Buying a Cable Modem

Hey everyone...

Right now i'm searching for a new cable modem and I'm really picky about which one I should buy. Going from dial-up to cable internet access is like selling your old corvette and buying a ferrari. It's a whole new world and I'm just wondering what numbers should be the best when looking at technical data. I can look for cable modem reviews and/or test comparisons myself, but just in case I'd like to see what links you guys have.

Thanks i advance for all the help

BAD BAD BAD IDEA i suggest you get a DSL connection instead there more OS friendly and are configurable, also about as fast as cable connections.

Do you know any sites where I can purchase dsl modems? I would like to know, but I highly doubt anybody can buy a dsl modem from the web. Usually isp's install them with the isp software, so that's one of the reasons why I was considering a cable modem. Another reason why is because I saw cheaper prices with cable modems. As long as the connection's just as fast I might consider going dsl.

"OS Friendly" what does that mean ? what part of it isn't OS friendly ? and what is so hard about configuring either one of them ? just because you have DSL connection does not mean anything else is not a good Idea.

cheers

Smowmonkey has a good point. All hard components are a slave to windows, and the software driver is a way for windows to communicate to that component. there are many ways to configure a dial-up modem (I can't say if there is as many ways to configure a cable or dsl modem, because I simply don't have one), for example, because of the driver. And the driver is made by the vendor of the driver. and the vendor has to follow the orders of the fcc. So if you can't configure your cable or dsl modem, It's probably the manufacturor's problem.
