Angry FTP/mIRC/Connection problem

I need to send some files that are pretty big (236mb to be exact) to two people I work with, I have tried connecting with them via FTP (didn't work), mIRC (didn't work), and even AOL IM and that didn't work either. I have a cable modem and the two i'm trying to connect also have either a cable modem or DSL. We all are currently running Win XP and also Norton Personal Firewall (which we've turned off just to see if we can connect) that didn't work.

Here's the problems we're running into:

FTP: I have the Bulletproof FTP server v.2.15 and am currently using Smart FTP. I have a folder set to share with the my co-workers the files they need to download from me. I gave them the ip address and login/pw and both computers time out or it says that my cpu didn't respond in time. I have tried turning off my norton firewall and my windows XP firewall. Still didn't connect. I need to be able to let them download from my cpu and it would be nice for them to be able to upload files from their cpu to me. I tried to connect and it worked fine through my cpu.

mIRC: If you're familiar with this program you know there is a DCC chat option that lets you send files to people, well i have been trying for a month to send my friends files but still it won't go through. It says my cpu times out or something.

AOL Instant Messenger/MSN IM: These say something about a firewall problem but if we all have them turned off i don't know why this would come up.

I know i can simply burn them a cd but that can get inconvienent, I just want to be able to send them files and have them send me files, I can with people on 56k but with the cable/DSL modems it just isn't happening. Sorry so long anyone have any other suggestions. Am i missing something obvious?
Thanks, D

Whatever app you are using should provide some type of logging. Whats it say?

How bout this?

or

http://www.kazaalite.com - I dont know the whole scoop on this but there is a program in the install folder that will allow you to create a link to file you have shared and send it to other people. Or something like that.

What OS are you running?

hey thanks, i think i will try the links. I may have found my problem, I am connected through iPAQ connection point which is 4 out hub so i can connect with my laptop, anyway i just dis-connected from the hub and went straight to my cpu from the cable modem itself and everything worked fine. All it is is there must be some sort of firewall/protection in the hub. thanks for the help though.
