Thumbs up Servu U FTP

I have Serve-u free ftp server installed and I have files set on a partitoned spaced on my slave HD to allow ppl on it! I have a D-link504T router.

What I would like to know is how to set my router up properly for ftp port 21 to allow friends into the FTP partition to download only. Also I want my FTP to look like a opsys xp my documents view (easily understood) or what can I get to achieve this?

Please someone walk me through it?

ps. I can set up serv-u fine and it has a green light indicating the server is running but how can I or someone test my ftp login through www to see if its working?

You need to setup port forwarding on your router or if it is there, you need to enable the outside traffic to internal port 21.

You can't make it look like "My Document".... there is no GUI with FTP server and that should answer your last question too.... you CAN"T access an FTP server via www.whatever.... it has to be FTP.whatever or ipaddressort#

Use your routers' user guide to learn more about port forwarding.

Cheers
p.s; if you want me to test it for you then send me a PM (I have been using Serv-U for years)

Ofcourse your not wrong, I was mistaken its FTP.Adress.whatever, or IP! I stand corrected"! Or sit as the case may be

However if I use serve-U ftp server can I not let freinds access a partition of a HD? When you say sevu-u has no GUI, yet I have been on inside other peeps drives and its very easy to navigate "My Documents" as you correctly stated"! If not how can I find somthing like this to work? Ofcourse that question is just fingers crossed you know how

Thanks for your reply, I will start with my router but tommorrrow!

EDITOn my router adnvanced contold page I have the following option for my FTP server partition. Rule Name, Protocol (TCP, UDP & also both together) port start, port end, and port map.! Can you tell me what to use please?
