Good Afternoon ! Have been using Firefox ever since it was first introduced and find it really very VERY good. It is clear and easy to use, gets updated whenever necessary and they have an excellent Help Page; The only gripe I have about it is that many of the online virus or malware scans will not accept Firefox. You get a message saying that you need to be running Internet Explorer. Its about time these guys woke up to the fact that lots and lots of use no longer trust or use IE. Susan

I agree, I find it excellent too.
Here is one that I know can do an online virus scan with Firefox.

Firefox is an excellent program. But if you do get firefox always install the updates and install I.E view as an addon. Firefox is much better than Ie.

It takes a lot longer to start the program than IE though. Tabbed browsing is a nice feature and the stumble upon add on is neat.

I think a few more seconds at start up is worth a broswer that works

Indeed it is!
Side note: One reason that IE may start faster than Firefox is that it's so built into the OS. Unfortunately for it, that's also a reason that it's so popular for spyware, viruses, and other nasty things.

Ever since I started with Firebird .4, I heart FireSomethingOrOther.

Your wrong Susan. The largest majority of internet users rely on IE.

If a site wants you to use IE to view it's pages, set the user agent as IE.

I use Maxthon, an IE based browser. I tried Firefox for less than 1 minute before I dumped it.
Nothing, but nothing will make me change to anything else.

Poor education is the cause of problems for IE users. With the right precautions it is as safe as any other, and don't think because you use Firefox you are invulnerable. It's all hype.

May be true that the large majority use IE but the large majority also use Windows too. Would you assert that it is better than Linux simply because more people use it?

Firefox doesn't use ActiveX which is a main cause IE is less secure.
There are over a hundred million people [and rising rapidly] who have downloaded and use FF.

I didn't assert anything, I stated fact.

Without required activeX, you miss a lot. Using activeX does not imply you are not safe.
Put it this way. I use IE's engine as my browser choice, thus I am bound to get something, right? Wrong, I never caught anything from the internet. Not one thing. Explanation?
As I said, education is the key. M$ are as much to blame as anyone for not keeping users up to speed and making alliances with the people that would ensure their end users enjoy a trouble free browsing experience.

If you want everything you use IE, or a compatable browser. Firefox is not compatable.
Firefox has its share of vulnerabilities though.

Yes windows is better than Linux, at this time. Simply put, Linux is to geeky for mainstream users. Support for hardware is not up to required levels for corporations etc. It can't run the applications and games people want.

Download figures mean nothing. How many users that downloaded stuck with it, downloaded it more than once?
Firefox's share is on the decrease. IE rules the roost and that's an inescapable fact.

Only M$ says that, experts disagree.

That's also disputable, from all I've read it's anything but on the decrease.

Yeah, because it's installed with windows...most people just leave things how they are.....no way does that make it better.
What it boils down to is; if you like FF use it, if not, use Opera.
If you can't be bothered, carry on with IE.
Personally, I use all three.

Until Linux can run windows software, it hasn't got a chance. Non savvy people will use what they know.
Windows is very poor. Allways has been. Linux is nowhere near a replacement by any stretch of the imagination.
Decent processors would be nice, but again, they are geared for windows.

What I read is that the mozzilla foundation was created and that doesn't sound good for Firefox and it's free availability. Time will tell.

The program you use to view your desktop, and to view all your files, is basically IE. Its always loaded. If firefox was always loaded it would load instantly also.

Have you used linux before? It is very easy to run, and alot easier to keep working well.

Uh, sorry to tell you, linux CAN run windows software. Not all, but alot. There is a free program, called WINE, that runs alot of software. There is also Cedega that runs games. (I got UT working perfectly). And crossover office to run MS OFFICE and iTunes.

There are many programs that are linux only. You dont know they joys of Superkaramba. And no, x86 processors are not geared for windows. They are geared to be processors. Windows is geared to work on them. So is linux. Most distros have versions geared towards AMD64 and PPC also.

If you get someone who has never used a computer before, they will find linux alot easier. Simply put - You have to do alot to maintain Windows, while you dont have to worry about that in linux.

After time windows gets bogged down with spyware, viruses, and itself. (Registry was a horrible idea, microsoft).

IE is not standards compliant, firefox is.

No. That is the work of Microsoft, and them keeping a stranglehold on the computer manufacturers. (If one decides to also offer linux, M$ will put the price up of windows to them, so their competitors will be able to sell windows loaded computers cheaper)

In the end, nothing is better, its just what works for you. I use windows, I have used linux in the past. Windows works for me because I know how to keep it running properly. Most people dont. Linux is very low maintenance.
