Question Yahoo IM Web Cam Problem

I have tried everything!! I just can't get my webcam to work on Yahoo IM. I get an error everytime i try to send AND recieve webcam that says:

A network error occured while connecting to the server.

I've already contacted yahoo's tech support, but they basically just cut and paste their troubleshooting page in an email and send that to me. I've done all their suggestions and it still does not work. BTW..my cam works fine with MSN messenger, AOL messenger, and an online chat website. I also have the same computer model at work (bought at the same time) and the cam works there! I think i may have changed something when i first set up the computer. I deleted some unwanted stuff that comes with the compter when you buy it. Could that be the problem? Has anyone else had/resolved this problem?

Specs:
Gateway 700GR Compter
Windows Xp version home edition 2002 with service pack
CreativeLabs Webcam

Re: Yahoo IM Web Cam Problem

Hello liquidblue1000,

Yes, I have exactly the same problem with my yahoo webcam - error message: "A network error occurred while connecting to the server".

Have you managed to resolve it? If so I would be very grateful for a solution. Like you, my cam works fine with MSN, so its definitely a problem with Yahoo; and "Yahoo Help" are useless!

Many thanks in advance for any advice.

After doing an uninstall and a reinstall of the program, mine is working fine now. Make sure you download the latest version, and in preferences set connection to 'no proxies'. Hopefully that'll do the trick.

Hi Guys and gals.

I had a similar issue, might be worth checking your Windows XP Firewall settings (even if its not being used)

Add port 5100 to your settings.

This worked for me, so hopefully it'll work for you.

It'll ask for a name, just put in Yahoo Cam or something and then port 5100.

Hope this helps.

hi Bob,

I needed to reinstall my OS (for a different reason). Then when I reinstalled Yahoo messenger and my cam, fortunately the webcam issue was resolved. It may be a bit drastic but you could always try that. Remember to back up your files first, of course!
