I don't, but only because I don't have the need as I get stuff that I want free, legally. Though if I couldn't get it free I would have no hesitation in doing so.

Correct.
I don't play computer games [unless you count online chess but that's free anyway] just about everything else I want can be legally downloaded for free.

Apart from Windows XP which I paid for.

I'm not into games either.

There is usally a free alternative to any program that costs. Many times the free ones are superior.

Thus: no need to be a pirate.

In linux there is always a free alternitive (most software is free on linux) but on windows they want you to pay 40$ for every little program out there.

Try k3b if you think Nero is good. Its free too.

http://www.k3b.org/

Even the operating systems needed to run it are free. Dosn't get better than that.

Get a grip

Some of you guys really need to get a grip. Either that or you don't actually do anything of value with any software besides burn warez CDs to trade with friends.

If you seriously use software, you KNOW that you can't use warez reliably. If you're going to do something, and do it well, you've got to get a real license.

For average consumer level software you're better off using free stuff. There's lots of stuff out there, so there's no real reason to steal.

Quite often I also buy source code along with a license.

When you reach the limits of the free stuff, you'll probably start to understand why spending $40 on a piece of software is nothing. If I save 1 headache by buying a license or save 1 hour, I'm already ahead of the game.

If you can't afford the $40, use free stuff. But that doesn't give you an excuse to steal. (Or get a job...)

Or look for contests or coupons or something. Software developers regularly give aways thousands of dollars of software. There are ways to get licenses legally for free.

Now, if I'm releasing some cracked version of some software, you can darn well bet that I'm going to make money off of it. Can anyone say 'rootkit'? No - I don't crack software - but if I were to get into it, you can bet I wouldn't be doing it 'for the greater good'. If I'm stealing from the software authors, you can bet I'll be stealing your CPU power. Where do you think spam comes from?

RenegadeMind,
Where, pray tell, does one go to download free software?
I frequent download.com and twocows but usually all the free stuff is trial version only and the trail version does not address any "issues" "problems" you might need addressed.

Example: I am having an error dll problem and downloaded what I thought was a free software only to find out once I downloaded it, the program was only a trial version and when I ran the program trial version, of course, it did not get rid of my dll error message unless I forked up $40.
