Question Is There A Way To Change My IP Address?

I have a new computer, the older one was my son's and his IP address is now showing on mine. For job/security reasons I would prefer to have my own IP address that is not connected to him or the contents of his old computer.

Is there anyone who can tell me how to achieve this, or what my options may be?

Thanx For Your Time

If the IP you're getting starts with 192.168....that's the IP assigned by a router and is visible only to others on your LAN.

Otherwise, the IP is assigned by your ISP and changing it requires either paying for another internet account or sweet talking your ISP into changing it for you.

Start -
Run -
CMD -
ipconfig /release (Then enter)
ipconfig /renew (Then enter)
Restart Pc.

Might work.

The 10.0.0.* range is also reserved for LAN usage.

You know you can always use proxys and avoid having your IP address seen; you could call your ISP and request to change the IP unless it's static (which you might have to pay to change it), if your IP is dynamic, you can unplug the power from your modem for about 35 seconds and plug it back in to allow your machine to aquire the new address.

As someone mentioned your router assigns you an IP as well, you can always change it in your router's configuration.

I recommend using proxys or annonymizer services. Almost all applications now support proxy use and you can find 1000s of them online for free.
