uploaded video looks zoomed in - why?

I keep trying to upload some digital camera videos to share sites. The videos are fine on my computer but once downloaded the video plays like it is severely zoomed in. Plays fine, good quality, just cant see everything. No blank spots in the screen, it looks perfect but i know it is zoomed in as heads are only partly in shot.

make sense?

details - tried both explorer and firefox and problem on both, mpeg 4, 20 meg size, web upload, no errors come up, 2 meg broadband connection, windows xp etc etc etc

Please help!!
