hotmail email account hacked

this sounds lame, i know

a friend of mine had his email account hacked ( i think it was a file sent to him with a torjan attached ) anyways he's really desperate to gettin it back. it's really important to him

i know it's illegal to regain it the same way it got stolen in therefore iwas wondering if there were any other legal ways to do so , something like emailing hotmail or reseting the password .

Hotmail should only be used as a 'throwaway' account you don't intend to keep. It's probably the most insecure email service out there. I'm not surprised the account has been compromised.

be sensible and not cheapskate. Pay a modest sum for a decent email service if you want higher security. And most of them can be accessed on the web nowadays (not just POP3) so hotmail is no longer the only choice for those who need 'anywhere' access.

There's nothing anyone can do to help you.

And your friend's email wasn't hacked. Somebody may have stolen his password, but Hotmail is not getting hacked anytime soon.

The best he can do is to contact Hotmail to delete the account or reset the password. But don't count on getting a response. If I were the admin, I wouldn't 'return' the account.

Tell him to get a new account and email people with the new address.
