Very Strange Behavior
Hi,
I have a DSL connection. This morning I went to the computer, and I realized my screen saver was acting very slowly. Then I realized my mouse was also acting slowly. It seemed like some process had taken over CPU time.
But here is the strangest thing - all of the sudden I heard voices on my speakers, for about 5 seconds. Then, as I started messing with my open apps, things went back to normal.
What's even stranger is that my girlfriend has had the same thing happen to her computer at work, as did a collegues of hers!
I have Zone Alarm running as a firewall - found nothing of interest in the logs, except that MS Word actually has been blocked going OUTBOUND for some reason.
All very strange. Does anyone know what is going on? This has not been the first time this has happened. Could this be a foreign process hijacking the PC? If it is, why would a firewall not stop it (my girlfriend and her friends work for a US Government agency, so they are protected too, and yet they had the same experience)? Is it a virus?
Whatever it is, this is very scary. This thing has made it through a firewall, and hijacked the operating system to the point that didigital signals sent through the internet are being reassembed so well that by accident they can go through the sound card and into the speakers.
Any suggestions, help, and comments would be appreciated as I am trying to figure out this mystery....
