Browser security vs. being normal online

why do the browsers need upgrades, it's like ppl don't upgrade their viruse software or they download everything they see... People need to realize they need to delete phishing e-mails and other spam.

It's possible for a web-browser to get 'hijacked' or some other malware attack to happen to it even if you only browse 'normal' websites. hackers often find 'loopholes' in a web-browser's programming code which they can then exploit to attack you. When Microsoft or Mozilla are told about a specific loophole they set to work making an update or upgrade to close the loophole.

That's why browsers need updates and upgrades, not to mention providing new features as well as fixing security weaknesses. You cannot simply say "I'll be okay I don't need them because I never visit dodgy websites or download files". That's no guarantee you won't ever be attacked. Some downloads can happen 'behind your back' if you don't keep your browser up to date with critical security updates.
