strange LAN problem

Hi there.

My problem is that after setting a LAN I haven't been able to send email or fill/send any forms on webpages. I have two computers at this LAN and from another(winXP) I can do all that but from this computer(win2k) I'm amazed to be able to post this.

Both are at same workgroup and named AITI(win2k) and View(winXP).
As far as I've been doublechecking all settings should be the same. (as far as it's possible with two different operating systems)
Is it even possible to have win2k and winXP at same LAN?

Then, when I go to 'My Network Places' -> 'Computers Near Me' I can see both computers with AITI(win2k), but cannot connect to View(winXP) --- but with View(winXP) (My Network Places -> View Workgroup Computers) I cannot even see the computers - it claims that 'Workgroup not accessible... Network path not found'

I'm totally hands-up here, so please someone, help?

I'm a bit of a newbie myself to this, but I had something similar a short while ago - forgive me if I'm stating the obvious, but have you checked the firewall settings on WinXP? To be honest I managed to get an intermittent connection to my XP box from my Mepis Linux box and then gave up - I have gone completely over to Linux now and have no problems with any of the machines on my LAN - this probably doesn't help, but it may put you on the right track. I also had to set up a shared folder on my XP box and physically log in to that before I could get any type of connection.
