how to increase my download speed

hi...i have win xp sp2...iam using broadband adsl connection...i have 2mbps broadband speed..but when i was downloading 6mb files ..it took to finish it 8 min..i dont know y..but sometimes it finished as soon as i click..my max. downloading speed is 12kbps.. what i wanted to know means..my friends having 256kbps speed only..but their downloading speed is 35kbps..infact they r downloading movies like 1 gb like that..i have just downloaded only files ..but i takes more time to finish..i would like to know how should i increase my downloading speed..if u people know about this ..please reply me as soon as possible..if u rpy ..i would be grateful to you...

on a 2 mb connection you should be getting 80 to 120+ kbps download speed..depends what isp your on and do they use throttling and port shaping..try pcpitstop or drtcp to tweak your tcp settings and mtu settings also try internet download manager or download accelorator plus. they say you can download 200% faster,,i use internet download manager,, i am on 8 mb connection and i can download 400 to 600 kbps no problem thats in the evenings when busy my isp profile is 8mb as i am only yards away from the exchange,, so i get the full speed.on p2p and bittorent if theres lots of seeders i get up to 800kbs Plus .

also what isp are you with ..and can you get 8mb service ..if your in the uk most isp do a 8mb connection just as cheap as 2 mb profile.
