Wireless Problems???

hi, i had a question about my wireless on my laptop, i realize that it's not the most reliable form of internet, but sometimes i'll just be using the internet, and i'll lose connection...when i try to re-connect it will just give me an error saying that it failed to re-connect. i have to manual re-set the router in another room, then wait for it to re-connect automatically, which can take like 10 to 20 minutes. are there any suggestions for tips to help deal with this situation?

Thanks in advance.

What is the name brand and model of the Router ?????

I have had lot of issues with Netgear (different models)...they were behaving the same as your....finally I brought it in and had one of the hardware Engineer in house modify the internal power supply and ever since then it worked find.

Cheers

2Wire.

i finally gave up. since now it won't connect at all, since it says the network is 'unidentified' i bought a 30' Ethernet cable to read from the router to my laptop in my office. Thanks for the suggestion, i might have it looked at if this option fails.

the problem that has been described sounds like to be a simple setting on your router, you can look up the setting of your router by typing in the ip address (Example HTTP://192.184.1.1) of your wireless router on the internet address bar. i am using a TP-Link router and you can do the same with mine.

look for the wireless general settings on your router (set date/time etc..) they should be an option to set a "time out period" this is just basically where the wireless will boot you off the internet after the time which is set.

I had a similar problem, not exactly sure of the cause, but the cure was to use a fixed IP address and have the DNS options in the IP config table point to the router.

Now, when the connection wanders off, it snaps right back to where it was as soon as the network reconnects.
