Of course FF... You can change almost all FF settings, you can instal new modules and other stuff to that browser. And FF is more safe than IE.

Wrong. FF has more bugs in it and it has a security hole in it that could allow hackers in to your PC. I'm unsure where this is or what could let people hack your PC this way but it's possible.

IE on my PC seems to be a lot slower then FF, FF opens up near enough straight away, IE takes a while, I suppose it's mainly due to the Add-ons that are installed each time

Fire fox blocks almost all viruses...kills 99.99 % of the germs! Lol jk, but it IS safer...especially with vista.

IE is perfectly safe, but to achieve it depends on your knowledge level.
Even knowing that I don't use it directly, since it's a poor excuse for a browser.

FF is somewhat incompatable with the "net". It achieves some safety by not using what IE needs, and thus what many sites use (ActiveX). So some sites won't display properly. Yes i know you can get some replacements for activeX, but not all.
Of course, some anti IE/pro FF sites will return the favour and block IE from viewing them. A blinkered approch that is easily circumvented anyway.
You see, the internet runs according to IE. FF may be compliant with the rules, but IE sets the standard for what is, and isn't.
If you're not compliant with IE, then your not compliant with the net, overall.

I have so far tried Three incarnations of FF. I don't like it. Tab handling is crap. Startup is painfully slow, everything has to be a plugin, plus as i said, it distorts the view of some sites. It isn't completely fault free and still has holes, just like IE.
The holes may be filled quickly, but they are still there, regardless.

Use one of the IE based replacements instead. They are safer "out of the box", much better features than IE, and compatability is assured.

I will blow a trumpet for "Maxthon". A trusted companion. http://www.maxthon.com/

Ultimately, It's what works for you tho.

Firefox is the best. I suggest you to install latest stable version of Firefox, not beta.

FireFox is more appropriate for Advanced User ...
FireFox is more Safe and Secure Than IE ...
FireFox with installed FasterFox add-on is more Faster ...
FireFox more Stable Than IE ...
FireFox able to Change as Settings and Features with a Huge Collection of Add-on ...
And That Opinion Comes after 3 Years of using FireFox ...

Personally, as most people on here, I prefere to use Firefox, it's more stable, it deosn't crash / freeze / hang as often as IE.

IE is OK in some ways, but with all the add-ons it's got, no wonder it's slow and bulky. Firefox is just a simple to use interface, it's got a nice user friendly design.

Go with firefox, but if you want to choose IE, then it's obviously your choice

Well I have to use both for work...All I can say both seen to run similar but Fire Fox has lots of good add ons and is a bit more user friendly.
I use IE on Vista but Fire Fox 3 on my slower lappy.
My preference is Fire Fox but I really dont care.

Of course FF is better than IE...

Very old thread. Most of the reasons they state FF is better than IE are no longer valid. Big exception is the open source status of FF.

Came here looking for some info on FF. Recently, about a month ago, a forum I frequented would not let me log on and post using IE7. It would log me off as soon as I logged on.

Naturally, my first reaction was I was blocked and not notified as to why. I sent a nasty-gram to the only moderator I knew (I couldn't look up the owner or any others since it wouldn't let me unless I was logged in) as to why I was blocked.

To make a long story short, he had no clue, cc'd the owner and other mods who also had no clue and assured me I wasn't blocked. They said everything looked ok, but reset all my permissions anyway. I ran every conceivable utility I could think of on my end, including uninstalling my virus scanner, nothing worked.

Last thing I tried, I installed FF and low and behold, it worked. I was able to log on and post in that forum w/o problem. Accessing the forum using IE7 still results in the same problem.

I like FF and want to keep it, it's a lot faster, but there are some things about it I find annoying. Here's a list:

The status bar at the bottom of the screen. To me, it's useless info that only reduces the space of the screen. In IE7, I can hide it, but not in FF. There is a Java setting in FF that has a "Hide Status Bar" option, but apparently it's a different status bar they're referring to, as I selected it but the status bar I don't like is still there at the bottom of the FF screen.

In IE7, I can hide the Menu Bar (File Edit View, etc), in FF I cannot.

In IE7, I can hide the RoboForm toolbar with a click on the X on the right end. In FF I have to right click the Navigation toolbar in order to access the toolbar menu, then deselect RoboForm.

In IE7, I can lock/unlock the toolbars, resize them, and combine them on one line, e.g. I have the location bar and google bar on the same line. I can't do that in FF.

Last but not least, Adsubract/Intermute does not support FF. It can be manually configured to work with it by changing it to Fixed Port Mode, but I don't really want to hassle with it.

I would still like to keep FF, but for now I'll only be using it to access that one forum, which will mean I probably won't be posting as much.

Perhaps some of you more experienced FF fans can give me some tips to configuring it the way I would like.

And for you more experienced IE7 users, maybe you can tell me how to diagnose why IE7 will not let me log on to that one forum. It only does it on that forum, and only from my computer. I can access it on a friend's computer who uses IE7.
